{"id":5532,"date":"2017-07-23T06:47:59","date_gmt":"2017-07-23T05:47:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.improvementscience.net\/blog\/?p=5532"},"modified":"2017-07-23T06:47:59","modified_gmt":"2017-07-23T05:47:59","slug":"the-q-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hcse.blog\/?p=5532","title":{"rendered":"The Q-Community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.improvementscience.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Q-Community.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5533\" src=\"http:\/\/www.improvementscience.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Q-Community.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"770\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At some point in the life-cycle of an innovation, there is the possibility of crossing an invisible line called the <em>tipping point.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This happens when enough people have experienced the benefits of the innovation and believe that the innovation is the future. \u00a0These lone innovators start to connect and build a new community.<\/p>\n<p>It is an emergent behaviour of a complex adaptive system.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>This week I experienced what could be a <em>tipping point<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I attended the <a href=\"https:\/\/q.health.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Q-Community<\/a>\u00a0launch event for the West Midlands that was held at the ICC in Birmingham &#8230; and it was <strong>excellent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The invited speakers were both engaging and inspiring &#8211; boosting the emotional charge in the old engagement batteries; which have become rather depleted of late by the incessant wailing from the all-too-numerous peddlers of doom-and-gloom.<\/p>\n<p>There was an opportunity to re-connect with fellow <em>radicals<\/em> who, over nearly two decades, have had the persistent temerity to suggest that improvement is necessary, is possible, have invested in learning how to do it, and have disproved the <em>impossibility hypothesis<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>There were new connections with like-minded people who want to both share what they know about the science of improvement and to learn what they do not.<\/p>\n<p>And there were hand-outs, side-shows and break-outs. \u00a0Something for everyone.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The voice of the Q-Community will grow louder &#8211; and for it to be listened to it will need to be patiently and persistently broadcasting the news stories of <strong>what<\/strong> has been achieved, and <strong>how<\/strong> it was achieved, and <strong>who<\/strong>\u00a0has demonstrated they can walk-the-talk. \u00a0News stories like this one:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/meridian.wmahsn.org\/subdomain\/innovation-warehouse-stories\/end\/node\/2412\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Improving safety, flow, quality and affordability of unscheduled care of the elderly.<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>I sincerely hope that in the future, with the benefit of hindsight, we in the West Midlands will say &#8211; <em>the 19th July 2017 was our Q-Community tipping point<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>And I pledge to do whatever I can to help make that happen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At some point in the life-cycle of an innovation, there is the possibility of crossing an invisible line called the tipping point.
