{"id":5310,"date":"2017-01-08T15:36:29","date_gmt":"2017-01-08T14:36:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.improvementscience.net\/blog\/?p=5310"},"modified":"2017-01-08T15:36:29","modified_gmt":"2017-01-08T14:36:29","slug":"the-power-of-pictures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hcse.blog\/?p=5310","title":{"rendered":"The Power of Pictures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\">I am a big fan of pictures that tell a story &#8230; and this week I discovered someone who is creating great pictures &#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.halopsychology.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hayley Lewis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">This is one of Hayley&#8217;s excellent sketch notes &#8230; the one that captures the essence of the Bruce Tuckman model of team development.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.improvementscience.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Tuckman_Model.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5311\" src=\"http:\/\/www.improvementscience.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Tuckman_Model-1024x724.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"371\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The reason that I share this particular sketch-note is because my experience of developing improvement-by-design teams is that it works just like this!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The tricky phase is the <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">STORMING<\/span> one because <strong>not all teams survive it<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">About half sink in the storm &#8211; and that seems like an awful waste &#8211; and I believe it is avoidable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">This means that before starting the team development cycle, the leader needs to be aware of how to navigate themselves and the team through the storm phase &#8230; and that requires training, support and practice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Which is the reason why coaching from a independent, experienced, capable practitioner is a critical element of the improvement process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am a big fan of pictures that tell a story &#8230; and this week I discovered someone who is creating great pictures &#8230; Hayley Lewis.
