Our mental model.<\/p>\n<p>So when we\u00a0judge intuitively and quickly then we will actually just reinforce\u00a0our current worldview &#8230; and in so doing we create a very effective barrier to learning and improvement.<\/p>\n<p>We guarantee the status quo.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>So how do we get around this barrier?<\/p>\n<p>In essence we must train ourselves to become more consciously aware of the judgment step in our thinking process.\u00a0\u00a0And\u00a0one way to flush it up to the surface is to\u00a0ask the deceptively powerful question &#8230; <strong>And?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When someone is thinking through a problem\u00a0then an effective contribution that\u00a0we can\u00a0offer is to listen, reflect, summarize, clarify and to\u00a0encourage by asking &#8220;And?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This process has a name.\u00a0 It is called a <em>coaching conversation<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>And anyone can learn to how do it.\u00a0Anyone.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the barriers to improvement is jumping to judgment too quickly.
