{"id":215,"date":"2010-03-07T12:29:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-07T12:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saasoft.com\/blog\/?p=215"},"modified":"2010-03-07T12:29:00","modified_gmt":"2010-03-07T12:29:00","slug":"what-is-the-dis-ease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hcse.blog\/?p=215","title":{"rendered":"What is the Dis-Ease?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.improvementscience.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/Dis-Ease.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-216\" title=\"Dis-Ease\" src=\"http:\/\/www.improvementscience.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/Dis-Ease-295x300.jpg\" alt=\"Dis-Ease\" width=\"188\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a>Do you ever go into places where there is a feeling of uneasiness?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">You\u00a0can feel it\u00a0almost immediately &#8211; there is something in the\u00a0room that no one is talking about.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">An invisible elephant in the room, a rotting\u00a0something under the table.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This week I have been pondering the\u00a0cause of this dis-ease and my\u00a0eureka moment happened while re-reading a book called &#8220;<em>The Speed of Trust<\/em>&#8221; by Stephen R. Covey.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A common\u00a0elephant-in-the-room\u00a0appears to be\u00a0<strong>distrust<\/strong> and this got me thinking about both the\u00a0causes of distrust and the effects of distrust.\u00a0 My\u00a0doodle captures the output of\u00a0my musing.\u00a0 For me, a potent cause of <strong>distrust<\/strong> is to be discounted; and\u00a0<strong>discounting<\/strong> comes from\u00a0<strong>disrespect<\/strong>.\u00a0 This can happen\u00a0both within yourself and between yourself and others. If you feel un-trust-worthy then you tend to <strong>disengage<\/strong>; and by disengaging the\u00a0system functions\u00a0less well &#8211; it becomes <strong>dysfunctional<\/strong>.\u00a0 Dysfunction erodes\u00a0respect and so on around the vicious circle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This then led me to the question:\u00a0Why haven&#8217;t we all drowned in our own distrust by now?\u00a0 I believe\u00a0what happens is that we reach\u00a0an equilibrium where our\u00a0level of trust is stable; so there must be\u00a0a counteracting trust-building\u00a0force that balances the trust-eroding force. That trust-building force seem to comes from our day-to-day\u00a0social interactions with others.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The\u00a0Achilles Heel\u00a0of negative-cause-effect circles is that you can break into them at many points\u00a0to sap their power and reduce their influence.\u00a0 So,\u00a0one strategy might be to\u00a0identify\u00a0the Errors of Commission that create the Disease of Distrust.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Consider the question: &#8220;If I have\u00a0developed a high level of trust\u00a0then what could I do to erode it as quickly as possible?&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Disrespectful attitude and\u00a0discounting behaviour would\u00a0be all that is needed to start the vicious downward spiral of distrust disease.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Who of us never disrespects or discounts others?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Are we\u00a0all infected with the same disease?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Is there a\u00a0cure or can we only\u00a0expect to\u00a0hold it in remission?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">How can we\u00a0strengthen our\u00a0emotional immune systems and\u00a0neutralise\u00a0the infective agents of the Disease of Distrust?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Do we just need to identify and stop our trust eroding behaviour?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">That would be a start.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do you ever go into places where there is a feeling of uneasiness?
