\"Learning<\/a>My focus this week has been to ask the question “What blocks improvement?”.\u00a0The\u00a0answers that I found most interesting\u00a0were “I didn’t realise there was a problem.” and “I\u00a0feel\u00a0there is a problem but I don’t know where to focus my attention.”\u00a0This set me pondering and eventually I had a bit of an “eureka” moment.\u00a0 It isn’t something that is present that\u00a0creates this blindness – it is something that is missing. And the only way you can see what isn’t there is by comparison with when it is there – just like\u00a0the game of “Spot the Difference”. When I compared what\u00a0I saw with what I know is possible\u00a0the thing I didn’t\u00a0see was a\u00a0fast-feedback loop. Hence the doodle.\u00a0 It appears that\u00a0there are at least\u00a0four dimensions to feedback – sign,\u00a0magnitude, accuracy\u00a0and timing.\u00a0 The speed of the feedback needs to be appropriate to the speed of the improvement; so\u00a0if we want rapid\u00a0improvement we need a fast-and-accurate feedback\u00a0loop –\u00a0a learning loop.\u00a0 A slow or inaccurate learning loop not only doesn’t work – it can actually make the problem worse.\u00a0 So,\u00a0my take-home this week is to actively\u00a0search for the learning loops and if I don’t see\u00a0one then I have something\u00a0to focus on improving.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
