Most are good.<\/p>\n<p>And in our quest for improvement sometimes we have to challenge a good habit and replace it with an even better one. And doing that is tough &#8211; much tougher than challenging a bad habit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Sometimes the challenge to our comfort zone\u00a0comes from Reality. We suddenly\u00a0lose something very dear to us that has become such an integral and important part of our lives that when it is taken away\u00a0we feel the acute pain of loss. We are left with an open emotional wound and we have to give ourselves time and space to recover and to heal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">With the\u00a0clarity of hindsight we can see that we knew all along <strong>what<\/strong> would happen &#8211; we just did not know\u00a0<strong>when<\/strong> it would happen\u00a0&#8211; and we were in a state of hope-for-the-best-for-now.\u00a0After all,\u00a0why\u00a0suffer the perpetual pain of worry\u00a0when the outcome is inevitable? Well, it may be inevitable but it does not mean it needs to be\u00a0imminent!\u00a0So a healthy dose of anxiety is OK. Complacency is the\u00a0precursor to a catastrophe\u00a0and most of our catastrophes are preventable.\u00a0Keeping busy doing what we have always done\u00a0is not an effective strategy for warding off a preventable catastrophe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A more\u00a0effective\u00a0strategy is to worry just enough to keep our complacency level low and to keep us alert to threats because in averting these we are forced to challenge ourselves and in doing that we discover\u00a0hidden opportunities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The\u00a0outcome is renewal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Sometimes though we have to learn the lessons of life the hard way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Old habits die hard&#8221; so the saying goes &#8211; but not all habits are bad.
